Nature trails accommodate hikers, horseback. Sites are arranged in three loops (Appaloosa, Buckskin, and Cayuse), and you have plenty of pion pines, juniper trees, and blackbrush separating you and your neighbors. The park is an ideal setting for camping, boating, swimming, hiking, hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation. With 90 sites, the campground can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs during the busiest of seasons. Turn left onto UT 313, and continue for another 12 miles towards Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. Horsethief Campground is one of Moab’s largest. You can fill your water jugs at Lions Park (intersection of Hwy 191 and UT 128) near the pedestrian bridge dedication plaque, or at Gearheads Outdoor Store in downtown Moab.įrom the visitor center in Moab, Utah, drive 11 miles north on Hwy 191. These lands are relatively undeveloped, offering very scenic views with little noise or distractions. This 260-acre, IDFG-owned and operated reservoir is surrounded by pine forests and granite-capped mountains. Note: Horsethief Campground has no water. Horsethief Reservoir is located approximately 75 miles north of Boise and 9 miles east of Cascade, Idaho. This short walk is less than a mile, starts from the west end of the Appaloosa Loop, and features views of the Henry Mountains to the southwest. If you’re preparing for a day of hiking or biking, consider warming up on the Horsethief Campground hiking trail. The campground is conveniently located off UT 313 and is a great basecamp for people exploring Dead Horse Point State Park or the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park.
